Sandblasting & Abrasive Blasting for Melbourne CBD

For Melbourne CBD customers the honest starting point is that driving an item out to Bayswater yourself is rarely practical — loading in the city is difficult, parking is worse, and the trip is thirty to forty minutes each way before traffic. So CBD work is almost always handled by courier: the item is collected, blasted and coated at our Malvern Street workshop, and delivered back. All blasting and coating happens in house, and we do not blast on site anywhere.

Logistics

Getting your items to us from Melbourne CBD

Courier collection is the default for the CBD, and it is worth getting the details right at the booking stage rather than the collection stage. Tell us where in the building or streetscape the item is, whether there is loading dock access or a timed loading zone only, the weight, and whether anyone at your end can help lift it. Those four things determine what kind of vehicle and how many people the courier needs to send.

We can arrange the transport at additional cost, or you can use your own carrier if you already have one servicing the site. Either way the item comes to 46 Malvern Street, Bayswater, roughly thirty to forty minutes east of the Hoddle Grid, where we have forklifts and cranes to unload it. Building and fit-out contractors working in the city often find it simplest to consolidate several items into one collection.

Courier collection and return

The practical option for the CBD. We can arrange it at additional cost — tell us the access situation, weight and dimensions and we will get the right vehicle booked rather than have a van turn up to a job that needs a tailgate loader.

Your own carrier or site freight

If your project already has freight movements to and from the city, adding a Bayswater leg is usually cheaper. Deliver to 46 Malvern Street, Bayswater and we will unload with our own equipment.

All blasting and coating is carried out in house at our Bayswater workshop. We do not offer mobile or on-site blasting, so items need to reach us one of the two ways above.

Local Customers

Who we typically help in Melbourne CBD

CBD work tends to be architectural and public-facing rather than industrial. The items we see from the city are things like architectural metalwork and feature panels, balustrades and handrails, streetscape furniture, bollards, bike racks and planter surrounds, signage and sign frames, gates and screens, and building services components such as plant frames, brackets and louvre assemblies removed for refurbishment.

Because these items are visible and often heritage-adjacent or design-specified, the finish carries as much weight as the corrosion protection. That shapes the process: media selection has to suit the substrate, since a coarse profile blasted into an aluminium or stainless feature panel will telegraph straight through the coating, and masking matters where only part of an item is to be treated. It also makes the courier logistics part of the job rather than an afterthought — an architectural item that gets damaged in transit has not been saved by a good blast.

Services

Which services suit Melbourne CBD work

Glass Bead Abrasive Blasting

Important for CBD architectural work — aluminium and stainless feature items are cleaned and given an even matte surface without a coarse profile showing through the finished coating.

Garnet Abrasive Blasting

Used on the steel side: bollards, gates, screens, plant frames and structural brackets where rust and failed coatings must be removed completely.

Protective Coatings

City items face traffic film, weather and constant contact, so the coating system is chosen for durability as well as appearance, and applied here after blasting.

Questions

Melbourne CBD blasting FAQs

Yes, by arranged courier or truck at additional cost — which is the way most CBD work is handled, since driving to Bayswater and back through the city is impractical. We need to know the access situation, weight and dimensions before booking so the right vehicle turns up.

General questions about media, coatings and drop-off are answered on our FAQs page.
