Abrasive Blasting & Coatings for Industrial Dust Collecting Equipment
Dust collection equipment wears from the inside. Hoppers, cyclones, ducting and filter housings spend their service life with abrasive-laden air moving through them, and the coating usually fails internally long before the outside looks tired. We blast and coat this equipment in house at our Bayswater workshop, which suits it well — components can be processed as separate sections so internal surfaces are actually reachable rather than sprayed blind through an access panel.

The components that reach us are typically the dismantled parts of a system rather than a whole plant: hopper and bin sections, cyclone bodies and cones, ducting runs and bends, filter housings and doors, support frames and platforms, plus the fan and blower housings attached to the system. Sections come in for recoating after wear, or as new fabrications needing a primer and finish before installation.
Because the equipment is modular, the practical question is usually how far to strip it down before sending it. The more it is broken into individual sections, the better the blast and coating access — and the better the internal surfaces, which are the ones doing the hard work, actually turn out.

Coating systems
Which coating systems tend to suit this work
Dust handling equipment tends to be specified around abrasion and, where the extracted material is damp or chemically active, around resistance to that material. These are the families that most commonly come up.

Preparation
Surface preparation considerations
The first thing to deal with is the accumulated product. Dust collection equipment holds fine material in every seam and corner, and it needs to be emptied and cleaned out as far as practical before it comes to us — particularly if the extracted material is hazardous, in which case we need to know what it is before the item is booked in.
After that, the challenge is access. Internal corners, cone transitions and the back faces of stiffeners are exactly where the old coating has failed and exactly where blast media is hardest to direct. Presenting the equipment in sections rather than as an assembled unit is usually the difference between a coating that reaches the working surfaces and one that only looks right from the outside.
All blasting and coating happens in house at 46 Malvern Street, Bayswater. We do not offer mobile or on-site blasting, so items are dropped off or sent by courier and collected once finished.

Where practical, yes. Separated sections give far better blast and coating access to internal surfaces, which is usually where dust collection equipment fails. If a unit cannot be broken down, tell us and we will let you know honestly what we can and cannot reach inside it.
