Protective Coating Application in Melbourne

Protective coating application is the process of applying a paint or coating system to a prepared surface so it resists corrosion, wear and environmental damage. We apply specified and non-specified systems — zinc, epoxies, polyurethanes, hi-temp silicones and more — to steel and other substrates, using fully qualified protective coating spray painters. Blasting and coating both happen in house at our Bayswater workshop in Melbourne.

What It Is

Application of Protective Coatings

A protective coating shields the surface underneath it from corrosion, wear and environmental exposure, extending the life of the item. On steel that usually means a system rather than a single product: a primer chosen for adhesion and corrosion resistance, then build and finish coats chosen for the environment and the appearance required.

Because coating performance depends on what happens before the first coat, we blast in the same facility. The surface is prepared and profiled, then coated while it is still clean, rather than being trucked between two businesses in between.

We apply to your specification where you have one — send it through with your enquiry. Where no specification exists, PBC will design a custom specification for your needs.

Step By Step

How the process works

  1. 1

    Send the specification

    Send your enquiry with the paint system or specification along with a general arrangement drawing. Photos are always handy but not necessary for project work. If there is no specification, tell us the environment and the finish you need and we will design one.

  2. 2

    Quote and agree the system

    We come back with a quote covering surface preparation, the coating system coat by coat, and transport if you want us to arrange it, so the scope is clear before work starts.

  3. 3

    Surface preparation

    The item is blasted in our blast room to remove rust, mill scale and old coatings and to leave the profile the primer needs. Preparation is the part that determines how the finished system performs.

  4. 4

    Masking

    Threads, machined faces, bearing surfaces, identification plates and anything else that must stay uncoated is masked before the first coat goes on.

  5. 5

    Apply the system

    Our fully qualified protective coating spray painters apply the system in order — primer, build coats, finish coats — allowing each coat to cure before the next, as the specification requires.

  6. 6

    Inspection, then collection or delivery

    The finished item is checked over, then collected from Bayswater or sent back to you by a courier we arrange at additional cost. Onsite storage lets us hold larger items until you are ready.
